United Way of Southern West Virginia

Our Vision:

We envision our communities as a place where all people achieve their individual potential through education, financial stability and healthy lives.

Our Mission:

We improve lives in Southern West Virginia by focusing on the building blocks for a good quality of life: health, education and financial stability. We work every day to mobilize the caring power of the people and organizations that have the passion, expertise and resources needed to make change.

Our Strategy:

We are a community of donors, volunteers and partners who advocate for the health, education and financial stability of our communities. We create opportunities and platforms for our partners to make an impact in these areas. We provide experiences for individual involvement and support for the causes that our community cares about.

Our 2020 Goals

1. In every county we serve, we will support one or more agency partners who are providing access to mental and physical healthcare for low income families.
2. In every county we serve, we will support one or more agency partners who are providing access to nutritious food.
3. We will support treatment for 150 individuals who are suffering from substance use disorder within our Southern West Virginia communities.

1. We will break down one of the barriers for learning by providing 1500 pairs of new athletic shoes and socks to students across our seven county area to ensure every child has equal footing.
2. In every county in our coverage area, we will recruit or retain one or more child enrichment programs that expose underserved youth to equal enriching experiences and opportunities.
3. We will coordinate a Read-Aloud West Virginia partnership with a new school in both Wyoming and McDowell counties.

1. We will ensure that 45% of United Way community allocated funds provide for the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter.
2. We will establish partnerships to facilitate semiannually financial literacy outreach events to improve financial stability in southern West Virginia.
3. We will raise $25,000 to maintain a United Way supported WV 2-1-1 hotline to help families find the information and resources they need to rebound after financial hardships.
